Love the outdoors? Join the Hiking club
Ever thought that getting exercise whilst falling over in the snow was possible without joining the Ski club and going abroad? Ever wanted to just get really close to nature – the flowers and trees and lovely wonderous sheep? Ever wanted to get the most incredible view for miles and miles by climbing a mountain with your friends?
Well, look no further than Loughborough Students Union Hiking Club, which, as a club with over one hundred members, offers just that. It's not just for those with a love of compasses, maps, Kendal Mint Cake and summits; whatever your walking ability, LSUHC will meet your needs and will guarantee a whole load of fun thrown into the bargain. So why not read on to see how you can join in with the hill walking, scrambling, mountaineering, and most importantly: the fun!
What’s the point in going from point A to point...er..A?
The club organises several trips each term - you have the opportunity to go on day and full weekend trips all over the British Isles, from the beautiful Lake District and Yorkshire moorland to the expanse of Dartmoor and the snowy Scottish peaks. Plus, away from the hills the club organises socials, pub crawls and dinners for all of its members. Our events calendar shows all our Autumn 2007 trips and socials in a handy planner.
Oh and if that’s not enough incentive, check out our photo album for all last years' shenanigans!
But I don’t like being led like a tourist around the hills...
Our hikes are so informal they are negatively formal! (a Maths joke for all you mathematicians).
But seriously, all our hikes are lead by ordinary members of the club, it does not even have to be a member of the committee – anyone with enough compatance to read a map and not get us lost (which does exclude some of the committee!! :) can lead one of our walks. On the other hand, we do always try and have a member of committee, or an individual we know can navigate effectively in each group so that anyone can have a go at leading.
We do actively encourage you to get involved and we help this along by offering navigation classes and advice whilst out on the hill. We also like you to help with transport arrangements by learning to drive the Union Minibuses if you can, or bringing your own car along. Of course you will receive money back for doing this for the club, and you can find out more details on the club drivers page.
I want to join!
